Niv-Mizzet, Guildpact
This is the third Niv-Mizzet the guild-parun mold has produced, and the one that finally makes the reward scale to the whole rainbow rather than a single guild's palette. The two prior five-color Nivs keyed off their own takes on deck diversity. This one counts something more demanding and more expressive, the number of distinct two-color pairs among the exactly-two-color permanents you control, which turns Ravnica's ten-guild grid into a scoreboard. Assemble a spread of gold cards and every combat connection fires damage, a draw, and life gain all sized to how thoroughly you've painted across the wheel. The X caps at ten, and getting there is the deckbuilding puzzle: mono-color and three-plus-color permanents contribute nothing, so the build wants a wide bench of guild-specific gold cards rather than the greediest bombs. The hexproof clause is unusually pointed for a card that wants a table full of two-color permanents; it reads as hexproof but only from multicolored sources, meaning opponents' gold-heavy removal is exactly the profile of threat it shrugs off while their mono-colored removal still answers it. That asymmetry, protected against the very color identity it rewards you for building, is the sharpest bit of design here, and it separates this Niv from its predecessors as much as the scoring rule does.
