Niblis of the Breath

The tapper given a flying body and pointed in both directions. Creatures that lock down a blocker or attacker by tapping it go back to the earliest sets, but the untap clause is what distinguishes this Spirit from that lineage: the same activation that taps an opposing creature down can instead untap one of your own, turning an already-attacked creature into a surprise blocker or refreshing a mana dork for a midcombat burst. What disciplines all of this is the activation cost itself, both halves of it. The ability demands a blue mana, so it competes every turn with whatever else you want to spend mana on, and it demands tapping the Niblis, so on any given turn it either attacks or it twists a creature, never both. Those two costs together reframe the card: not an aggressive 2/1 with upside, but a control element wearing an evasive body, where each turn is a genuine fork between sending two flying damage and reaching out to manipulate the board. The untap mode is the half that earns its keep, since one-shot tappers and the old tap-on-attack lords could only ever point in one direction. Held back, it neutralizes the single scariest attacker every turn; sent in, it threatens a slow clock; converted to combat math at instant speed, it untaps a blocker the opponent thought was spent. The 2/1 frame matters less for its damage than for being awkward to block, which keeps whichever plan you choose from getting answered by the ground.
