Putting shroud on Equipment created a real timing puzzle: shroud forbids targeting the wearer, but the printed Equip ability targets the destination creature, not the one currently holding the gear, so the standard sorcery-speed Equip still works fine to move it. The
ability is the more interesting clause, and it points the other direction. Because attaching targets where the suit is going, that two-blue activation is an instant-speed attach: when removal goes on the stack aimed at one of your creatures, you respond by suiting it up, and the now-shrouded body slips out of the spell's target. The protection is reactive, not evasive. You are not pulling the suit off a threatened creature; you are slamming it onto one in the window before it dies. That is the axis it sits on: keeping a clock alive against targeted interaction, with the flexibility to redirect the shield to whichever attacker the opponent is trying to kill. The bill comes due on your own side, of course, since shroud does not discriminate by controller: a creature wearing this can't be the target of your pump spells, your combat tricks, or your protective auras either. It buys its insulation by walling off half your own toolbox, which is the trade every shroud effect asks you to make, here folded onto a piece of gear you can move at instant speed for the right price.
