Name-based discard, scaling with an X cost and locked to your own turn: this is a hand attack built as a puzzle rather than a hammer. Note the timing constraint is not sorcery speed; "activate only during your turn" still permits an instant-speed window across any phase of your turn, which matters for sequencing around your own draws and combat. The naming clause is what shapes everything. You are not stripping the best card; you are guessing, and the random reveal is the design's clever sleight, because it forces the opponent to expose information whether or not your guess connects. A correct call against a hand of four with X=4 takes every copy; a wrong call still gives you a free look at random cards from their grip. That information asymmetry is the real payoff. The design also assumes a metagame of four-ofs, which is where the named-card requirement earns its rate: against a singleton-heavy field the ceiling collapses, and the floor (pay mana, learn one card) becomes the whole offer. As a piece of early color-pie history, it reads as one of the cleaner Legends articulations of what dimir would become before the guild had a name: blue's information control and black's hand attack fused into a single activated ability, priced for an era that had not yet learned how dangerous repeatable discard could be.
