Mystic Archaeologist

Creature — Human Wizard1 generic manaBlue mana

A repeatable card-draw engine stapled to a body too fragile to defend it, which is the entire bargain on offer. The activation is steep enough that you are not casting this early and drawing the next turn; the five-mana, double-blue button asks for a midgame where you have mana to spare and nothing better to do with it. That pricing is what keeps a card-advantage engine on a two-drop in check: the wizard arrives cheap to bait removal, and if it survives, the draw only becomes relevant several turns later, by which point a 2/1 has long since stopped mattering on the board. It belongs to the enduring category of "creature that draws cards repeatedly," where toughness is always the tax: a body this small dies to nearly everything, so the engine is only as good as your ability to protect or untap with it. What separates this one from the heavier-costed members of that type is how cleanly the price scales into the late game, where two cards at instant speed for a single activation can refill a control hand without ever committing a spell to the stack. It rewards a slow deck that has already stabilized, not the tempo-driven one its cheap casting cost might suggest.
