How this card plays

The creature clause is mostly a trap line. Twenty-four fliers across the set is a real count, but most of TMT's pressure comes from grounded legendaries and the Equipment-wielding bodies that want to attack on the ground, so reading this as creature removal will leave you holding it against half the boards you face. What carries the card is the artifact clause: Equipment is a real subtheme here (Bespoke Bō, Novel Nunchaku), and the splashable mana-rock and utility-artifact density means the destroy half connects more often than its narrow target language suggests.

The Mutagen rider is what moves it out of the sideboard. GU and BG goodstuff want a slow mana sink that grows a legendary across multiple turns, and because the token arrives whether or not the spell finds a target, you never feel robbed casting it into an empty board. That guarantee is the whole argument: it lets a value pile run the card as its 22nd or 23rd playable without committing a slot to dead interaction. P1P6 to P1P9 in those two pairs, lower in any green deck built to race rather than grind.

The sorcery-speed activation is the honest tax. You cannot ambush a Mechanized Ninja Cavalry swing with a surprise counter, so the +1/+1 is a planning resource, not a combat trick, and the value half always lands a turn behind the removal.

Draftsim's 1/10 sideboard read underrates how often the artifact clause matters in a format this thick with Equipment. The green podcast's eight overshoots the other way: this is not a P1P3. Maindeck in GU and BG piles that prize value over tempo, sideboard elsewhere.
