Multani's Presence

EnchantmentGreen mana

Pure conditional insurance for a single green mana: when an opponent's permission stops one of your spells, the card it was supposed to cost you comes right back. The design keys off the counter event itself, which is a sharper hook than the rate suggests. A Counterspell that should trade one-for-one becomes a wash; every piece of stack interaction thrown your way refills the hand it was meant to empty. But the trigger never asks whose finger is on the button, and that is the dual reading the card is built around. A player can counter their own spell, and in a build that casts into a friendly Chalice of the Void or any self-targeting counter, the triggered ability becomes a repeatable cantrip: pay the mana, watch the spell get countered, draw the card. Note the boundary the rules draw here. The trigger needs an actual counter, not merely a spell that fails to resolve; a spell that fizzles for lack of a legal target is removed without being countered, and Multani's Presence stays quiet. It blunts the attrition, never the tempo: you still spent the mana, the spell still died, but the card is no longer part of the bill. Green has always been the color most exposed to blue's grip on the stack and least equipped to answer in kind, holding no countermagic of its own. This is a flat refusal to let the trade stick, paid in cards rather than in answers.
