Mossbeard Ancient

Creature — Treefolk5 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

Green has printed the vanilla-plus fatty in almost every color-pie-honest shape over the years, and this is the seven-mana version that trades absolute size for a small buffer against the aggressive decks it's meant to blunt. Seven power with trample is the payoff, but the five life gained on entry is the tell about what the card is for: a body this big at this cost is a stabilizer first and a clock second. The trample matters more than the raw seven suggests, because a defensive creature that also punches through chump blockers keeps a stalled board from becoming a stalemate the controlling player can sit behind. There is nothing tricky in the timing (the life gain is a plain enters-the-battlefield trigger, no reach, no evasion beyond trample), and that plainness is the point: this is the reliable, uninteractive top-end that a green ramp or big-creature deck reaches for when it needs a threat that also refills the life total it spent getting to seven mana. It fills the slot where you want your finisher to also be your answer to going low, without asking you to hold up a spell or read a modal choice. Straightforward by design, and useful precisely because it does two things a grinding green deck always wants at once.
