Mortuary Mire

Land

Recursion at a discount, paid for with tempo: this land enters tapped and hands one dead creature back to you, not to your hand but to your very next draw. That sequencing is the whole balancing act. A creature returned this way is a draw you have already committed, so you spend the following turn collecting it rather than casting it. The card rewards decks that can afford to slow down, or decks where the buyback target is worth a full turn of card advantage on its own. The mana ability is incidental: a tapped source of black that happens to come stapled to a one-shot graveyard hook. It shares its skeleton with a cycle of basic-land-typeless taplands, each pairing a color-fixing tap ability with a single enters-the-battlefield spell effect keyed to its color; the black one, fittingly, is the one that raises the dead. The recursion trigger is a redraw no removal spell can touch once it resolves, which is the quiet reason to run it over a cleaner untapped source. The job is to convert a flooded, late-game land drop into a guaranteed redraw of the creature you most want back, in a color that has always been willing to mortgage tempo for inevitability.
