Mortis Dogs

Creature — Phyrexian Dog3 generic manaBlack mana

A creature whose entire value proposition is its own death. The attack trigger inflates the body to a 4/2 in combat, but the real payload is the death clause: when it dies, a target player loses life equal to its power at the moment it left the battlefield. Swing it in as a 4-power threat, then throw it into a profitable trade or feed it to a sacrifice outlet, and that 4-power figure converts straight into life loss. The design quietly rewards stacking power before the body dies: any pump that resolves before death increases the drain, and the attack trigger alone means a blocked attacker is already worth more dead than its type line suggests. It is a Phyrexian remix of the old "deals damage when it dies" idea, except routed through life loss rather than damage, which sidesteps prevention and damage-redirection effects and reaches players directly regardless of toughness or protection. Treat it as ammunition rather than board presence: its toughness of 2 makes it fragile, and that fragility is the point. There is no recursion here; once it dies, it stays dead, so the math is a single shot, not a loop. Left alone it is an unremarkable beater. The trick is to engineer its death on your own terms, with as much power piled on as you can briefly muster, and aim the drain where it hurts.
