Morphic Pool

Land

Dual lands have always paid for their fixing with a tap-down clause, and the lineage runs from the original taplands through the guildgates and the slower honest cycles that followed. What this cycle changed was the condition attached to that clause: instead of a permanent drawback or a fetchland-tax workaround, the enters-tapped restriction is a conditional replacement checking how many opponents you have. With one opponent it comes in tapped, no different from a basic tapland. With two or more it arrives untapped, functionally an Underground River you never have to pay life to activate: the mana ability is the same, but the fixing comes free of the pain cost older duals charged. The design encodes its intended environment directly into the rules text rather than into the rate, which is an unusually literal way to gate a card's power: the multiplayer condition is not a bonus stapled on top, it is the only state in which the land performs at full speed. That makes the floor and ceiling identical in card text but wildly different in practice, depending entirely on who else is sitting down. The result is a fixing land whose evaluation flips on a single contextual switch, and one of the cleanest demonstrations of a mechanic built to read one way in a duel and another way around a wider table.
