The payoff that gave colorless aggression a reason to keep spells cheap and plentiful rather than build toward one big threat. It belongs to a small class of enchantments that convert a deckbuilding constraint (here, casting colorless spells) into a repeatable damage engine, paying out one ping per trigger no matter what the colorless spell itself does. The friction is real: each trigger only lands a point, and you need a critical mass of colorless spells (devoid burn, colorless artifacts, castable Eldrazi) before the count amounts to anything, so the card asks the deck to commit fully to colorlessness before it returns a thing. Its own Devoid keyword is essentially cosmetic to the engine; the ability counts spells you cast only while the enchantment is already on the battlefield, so its own colorlessness never feeds itself. The any-target clause is the quiet generosity: each trigger can go upstairs or knock a small blocker aside, so the engine bends toward both reach and removal as the colorless count climbs. Note the boundary that keeps it modest: it counts spells cast, not permanents in play, so token-makers and creatures you flicker do nothing for it, and the deck it wants is one built around the stack, not the board. What it really represents is an experiment in pricing aggression by spell volume instead of board presence: a damage outlet for a deck that never wanted to sacrifice anything, only to keep casting.
