Molten Collapse

The mechanic doing the work here is descend, and it turns a two-mana Terminate variant into a conditional two-for-one. The default mode is a clean kill: destroy a creature or planeswalker at sorcery speed, no strings, nothing exotic. But if a permanent card hit your graveyard this turn, whether from a fetchland crack, a self-mill effect, or a creature that died earlier in the same turn's combat, the spell splits into two removal statements at once, adding a second line that answers cheap noncreature permanents: a mana rock like Sol Ring, a problem enchantment or artifact costing one or less, a token-making trinket. The design tension is worth naming. The payoff mode reaches into a category black-red rarely touches cleanly (noncreature permanents), but it gates that flexibility behind a graveyard condition you have to earn, so meeting the condition becomes a matter of sequencing the turn rather than firing blind. The mana-value-one-or-less ceiling on the second mode holds it back from becoming a universal artifact-and-enchantment sweep: it picks off the cheapest enablers and utility pieces without touching a costly bomb permanent. Read it as modal removal that pays you for playing the kind of deck that fuels graveyards anyway and costs you nothing when you cannot meet the condition, since the creature-and-planeswalker line stands on its own regardless. That first mode already destroys planeswalkers of any size, which is exactly why the second half stays narrow: it is fixing a blind spot, not stacking redundancy.
