Evasion you rent rather than grant: each tap hands one of your creatures flight and a small power boost for a single combat, then collects payment by destroying that creature once the turn winds down. The mechanic is cost-as-fuel, the same logic that powers any sacrifice engine, except the bill comes due automatically instead of being offered as an option. The crucial wrinkle is the verb: the delayed trigger destroys the launched creature, it does not sacrifice it. That gap matters. An indestructible body, or one shielded by regeneration, walks away having gotten its flying for free, while everything else pays in full. The artifact is therefore not a buff but a closer. It does its best work when the launched creature has already spent its usefulness (a token, a tapped-out attacker, something with a death trigger waiting in the wings), and the flying pushes a last point or two of damage past the ground. The evasion is conditional, not absolute: flyers and reach creatures can still catch the launched attacker, so this is a way around blockers, not a guarantee through them. Timing follows the same rule as any evasion grant: the tap wants to fire in the precombat main phase or during the attack step before the defender declares blocks, since flying granted after blockers commit changes nothing about who is already blocking whom. This is artifact design from a time content to do one strange thing at a moderate cost rather than assemble a value engine: convert your surplus bodies into reach, then watch them go.
