Killing it is a worse deal than ignoring it. The 4/4 body is the smallest part of what you are buying: trade it or burn it and the controller banks two 2/2 Oozes, each of which folds into two more 1/1 Oozes on the way out, so a single creature converts into seven total bodies across three generations of death triggers. That fractal payoff is the design: an Ooze that resists targeted removal not by being hard to kill but by punishing the kill. The wrinkle is timing. The tokens are not on the board when a destroy-based sweeper resolves; they are created by the death trigger that the wrath itself causes, so they walk in clean after the dust settles. A board wipe does not catch the chain, it springs it. Only exile severs the tree at the root, since exiling the original instead of letting it die stops the first split before any token ever exists, and a token that never reaches the graveyard makes no children of its own. That asymmetry makes the card a tax for the price of a midsize green creature: most answers leave the opponent further ahead than they were before the spell. Sacrifice outlets and aristocrat engines turn the same trigger into fuel rather than insurance, since every link in the chain is a fresh death something else can profit from, but the card needs no support to be obnoxious. The lineage is the persistent-value creature, the body that refuses to leave the board for one answer; the splitting tokens give it a granularity most of those creatures lack, letting you chump or trade pieces without surrendering the whole investment.
