Mistform Wakecaster

The Onslaught block's tribal experiment needed a way to make a deck full of mismatched creatures pretend to be one tribe, and the Mistform line was Wizards' answer: a series of Illusions whose only real ability was lying about what they are. Most of them flipped only themselves. This one flips the whole board. The activated ability that names a creature type and applies it to every creature you control is the payoff slot the cheaper Mistforms were building toward, turning a stitched-together battlefield into a Goblin, Soldier, or Zombie army on demand for the length of a turn. That matters in a block whose best cards rewarded sharing a type: morph aside, the lords, the tribal sweepers, and the "creatures of the chosen type" effects all keyed off labels, and this hands you the label wholesale. The hitch is the rate. Five mana for a 2/3 flier whose marquee ability costs four more, taps it, and lasts only until end of turn means the tribe you grant evaporates each cleanup; you are renting unity, not owning it, and you spend a turn cycle assembling it. The first ability, which changes only the Wakecaster's own type, is the cheap insurance, letting it dodge a tribal removal spell or qualify for a lord on its own. As a design, it is the apex of a curiosity Onslaught spent three sets exploring: tribal identity as a printed, purchasable, temporary thing rather than something fixed on the card.
