Mistform Ultimus

Legendary Creature — Illusion3 generic manaBlue mana

Tribal design has a recurring problem: the moment a set leans into creature types, it wants a card that belongs to all of them at once, the universal donor for every lord, every "choose a creature type," every kindred payoff. The clever, almost smug answer to that problem is a single line of rules text that says it qualifies as every type that exists or ever will. Vampire lords pump it. Goblin tutors fetch it. A spell that destroys all Slivers takes it down too, which is the catch that keeps the joke honest: belonging to everything means belonging to everyone's removal as well. The text working even outside the battlefield is the genuinely sharp part, because it lets the card count as the right type for graveyard and library effects, not just combat. As a 3/3 body the rate is unremarkable by design; this was never meant to win on stats. It is the rules-text equivalent of a wildcard, a piece of glue printed so that tribal mechanics have a creature that can never be the odd one out. The flavor lands too: an Illusion that is anything you need it to be, shifting to fit whatever mask the moment demands. Decades of subsequent kindred cards have produced cleaner, cheaper, or splashier versions of "counts as all types," but this is the one that stated the idea in its purest form and signed it with a name.
