Targeted discard usually buys itself with a card from your own hand: Thoughtseize trades a life-point and a card, Duress trades a card. This enchantment instead converts board presence into hand disruption, again and again, as long as you have bodies to feed it. The discard half is the strongest shape in the game's vocabulary (reveal, you pick, they pitch the best card), and the recurring nature means a single resolved permanent can strip a hand to ribbons across several turns. The sacrifice clause is what holds the rate in check: each activation costs a creature, so the engine prices itself against your own board rather than against your hand or your life total. That accounting is what binds it to anything that makes tokens or wants creatures dying in the first place. The sorcery-speed restriction matters too, closing the window where you might hold up the activation as a reactive trick; this is proactive resource attrition, drained out turn by turn on your main phase. Read as a piece of a sacrifice-driven shell, it does double duty: the creature that feeds it is often something you wanted to sacrifice anyway, and the discard is pure upside stapled on top of a death trigger. That overlap, board-to-hand conversion welded to a sacrifice outlet, is what keeps the card relevant in builds that treat creatures as ammunition rather than as a clock.
