Mind Burst

Sorcery1 generic manaBlack mana

Built on a self-referential clause that only matters once the copies start stacking up: with no Mind Burst in any graveyard, X is one, so the first cast strips a single card. Each copy already in a graveyard then bumps the count, so the second resolution tears two loose, the third pulls three, and the line keeps climbing as long as you keep finding them. That escalation is the whole reason the card exists, a hand-attack spell that scales with how many of itself have already been cast rather than with board state or mana invested. The mechanic rewards redundancy in the deck list, where committing four copies converts a flatly mediocre rate into a snowballing one as the graveyard fills. The discard is the targeted player's choice, not the caster's, which caps the ceiling against an opponent who has already emptied out: by the time the back-half copies are ripping two or three cards away, the hand they aim at is usually down to its last one or two anyway. The design tension is plain. Early copies are weak, late copies are strong, and the deck has to survive long enough to reach the late ones. The price of admission is going four-of or not bothering, accepting that the first one off the top is filler in exchange for the last one landing as a haymaker.
