Tracked Standard playas of Jun 2, 2026

Registered in 0.3% of tracked decks, 2.1 copies on average, 2 Top 8 finishes. Last seen May 30, 2026.

A fringe card so far this season, registered in a thin slice of tracked Standard at a copy count that suggests a one- or two-of when it shows up rather than a deck's centerpiece. The dig wants a critical mass of creatures that fit the mana value six ceiling, and the sneak cost wants evasive attackers already on the board, two deckbuilding asks that pull against the ramp-and-cheat shell most naturally drawn to a five-mana put-creatures-onto-the-battlefield effect. The decks running it are treating it as a flex slot for a green creature build, not a four-of engine, and the spread of registrations is too small to credit any single archetype as its home. The random-order bottoming caps the ceiling: you cannot sequence the leftovers, so the card is a single burst rather than a repeatable advantage engine. Against the current format's aggressive starts, the turn you spend casting it on curve is the turn that matters, and the sneak discount only helps a deck that was already attacking.

Michelangelo's Technique was released in March 2026, so it rotates with its parent block in the fall of 2028; the exact date waits on Wizards' announcement. That is a long runway by Standard's standards, which means its near-term fate is about whether the format prints the cheap evasive creatures the sneak cost rewards rather than about the rotation clock. Nothing about its placement is fixed by the calendar yet; it is fixed by the absence of a shell that wants both halves of the card at once.
