Meddle

Instant1 generic manaBlue mana

A redirection spell so narrow it reads like a design exercise in just how specific a target-rewriting effect can get before it stops being playable. The constraint stack is the whole story: the spell it answers must have exactly one target, that target must be a creature, and the replacement must also be a creature. Miss any condition and the card does nothing. What it buys for that price is a clean answer to single-target removal aimed at one of your creatures, catching a Terror or a Lightning Bolt on the stack and sending it onto a more expendable body, or onto an opponent's creature entirely. It plays just as readily on offense: a combat pump or a beneficial Aura announced on a friendly attacker can be peeled off and redirected before it resolves. The deeper lineage runs through the redirection family of Deflection and later Misdirection, spells that do not counter but rewrite intent on the stack. This is the creature-only, cheapest, most hemmed-in member of that group, the one whose conditions are tight enough that it never threatened to become a staple. It survives as a reminder that targeting is itself a resource, and that a spell sitting on the stack is not as locked-in as it looks the moment its target leaves a legal window open.
