Marwyn, the Nurturer

Legendary Creature — Elf Druid2 generic manaGreen mana

Most Elf mana producers tie their output to a fixed number or to the count of Elves on the battlefield: Priest of Titania and Elvish Archdruid read the board, Llanowar Elves taps for a single green and never grows. This one stores its history instead. Every Elf that lands while it survives leaves a permanent +1/+1 counter, and the tap ability scales to that accumulated power, so its mana output is a record of how many Elves you have committed across the whole game rather than a snapshot of the current board. The structural consequence is that it punishes board wipes differently from its peers: a sweeper resets the counters' source by killing the body, but as long as it lives, removing your other Elves does not shrink it. The 1/1 frame is the tax for that growth, a fragile starting point that demands protection and time, and the green-only output keeps the ramp inside the color rather than fixing into a splash. What makes the counter mechanic load-bearing is that it converts tempo into a one-creature engine: instead of needing a wide board to generate explosive mana, you need one survivor that has watched a wide board come and go. That is a meaningfully different ask from the Elf-count producers, and it rewards a build that floods the early turns to bank power on a single permanent.
