The activation demands mana and a tap before it will convert your next spell's cost into life, which means it cannot dodge its own body-count problem: you pay to unlock the discount, so the card is a battery you charge one turn ahead rather than an unconditional engine. What that buys is precise. Because it converts the entire mana value into life, the discount scales with the spell, which makes it a springboard for game-ending payoffs whose only real cost is deck-building around a healthy life total and a way to refill it. The 3/5 flying body is the tell that this was built to survive rather than swing: it wants to sit on the table, absorb early attacks, and untap so the ability can keep firing. The tension the design resolves is that raw life-as-mana engines tend to either kill you or trivialize the game; routing the discount through a tapped activation and a per-turn window keeps the payoff honest, one spell at a time, and forces you to decide which spell is worth the life this turn rather than dumping your hand for a heartbeat.
