Marsh Crocodile

Two enters-the-battlefield triggers fire off a single 4/4 body, and they pull against each other hard enough that the card never quite cohered into a deck. The first asks you to bounce a blue or black creature you control: a self-gating tax that costs the mana to recast whatever came home, redeemed only if that creature had an enters-the-battlefield effect worth firing twice. So the recursion engine is something you have to bring with you; the Crocodile rewards a board you already committed to rather than supplying the commitment, and the color restriction on the bounce means you cannot even cash a stray off-color value creature. The second trigger is symmetric discard, which is not tempo but attrition, sharpest when you have emptied your hand deploying this thing while the opponent is still holding answers. The body is the plainest part: no evasion, no flash, cast at sorcery speed into an open board and winning combat the honest way. That is the whole design problem. Each effect is real and each is small, and the bounce in particular asks for an engine instead of building one, so the slot reads like a beater but plays like a value spell with a beater attached. The Crocodile typing is flavor and carries no mechanical weight. This is the sort of early-era midrange piece that does two modest jobs and a fight from one card and ends up doing none of them well enough to anchor around.
