The structural cost is that it does nothing until you actually tap something: it is a multiplier, not a generator, so a board with no mana producers leaves it inert. That discipline is what keeps a six-mana enchantment from simply refunding itself the turn it resolves. The replacement wording is precise about its reach: it modifies only the quantity of mana produced, not the act of tapping or the activation itself. The permanent is still tapped and its ability still activates, so anything on the board watching for those events fires exactly as it would without the enchantment present; it touches the output, nothing earlier in the sequence. That precision is also where it becomes a combo piece rather than a pure ramp tool. Pair it with a rock that costs less to untap than it produces, like Basalt Monolith, and the doubled output crosses the break-even line: now untapping is mana-positive, and the loop runs as long as you care to run it. The same multiplier that quietly accelerates a fair deck turns a self-untapping rock into infinite mana.
