The two damage hides in plain sight here. The spell deals one immediately to any target, then the Devil token it leaves behind carries the second point as a death trigger: a stored ping you can cash in whenever the 1/1 dies, whether you chump-block with it, sacrifice it, or trade it in combat. That structure is the whole pitch. Three mana for two damage split across two moments is a poor rate against any honest burn spell, but the split is what makes it useful in decks that want bodies as much as reach. The Devil is fodder for a sacrifice outlet that pays out twice (once on the activation, once on the trigger), an extra creature for an aristocrats engine, and a way to pressure planeswalkers or finish small creatures on your own schedule rather than the spell's. The ping-on-death template is a recurring red idea, descended from the Devil tokens that pair small bodies with delayed reach, and this is a clean single-card version of it: one spell, one immediate point, one point stored on legs. It rewards a deck built to convert tokens into value, and it is overpriced anywhere that just wants the damage now.
