Lure of Prey

A reactive cheat-into-play spell gated entirely by your opponent's tempo, an odd and clever place to stash discounted creatures. The whole card is a conditional enabler dressed as an instant: it only becomes castable once an opponent has put a creature spell on the stack this turn, and the reward is dropping a green creature directly from hand onto the battlefield for four mana rather than paying its cost. The design logic is symmetry-breaking through baited aggression. The opponent's own development opens the window, so the more eagerly they build a board, the more they hand you a free fattie. That same condition is what disarms it: against a controlling deck that never casts creatures, this is dead in hand, and there is no way to manufacture the trigger yourself. The era it came from rewarded exactly this kind of punisher, where a deck full of expensive green monsters could hold a single answer-shaped enabler in reserve and convert an opponent's tempo into its own. The timing nuance matters: the spell does not have to resolve in response to the creature spell, only sometime in the same turn after one has been cast, so you can let the opponent's creature resolve and still slam your own afterward. It sits in the small family of effects that put creatures into play without casting them, sidestepping mana cost entirely while dodging counters that answer spells on the stack, since the creature never goes there.
