Luminous Guardian

Creature — Human Nomad3 generic manaWhite mana

A defensive wall that pretends to be a creature, then refuses to stay still. Most early-Odyssey ground-holders were Walls proper: static toughness, no upside, fine until the board stalled and the game asked who could actually do something. This one trades the Wall type line for two pressure valves on the same four-drop frame. The first soaks up incoming damage one point at a time, a slow toughness pump that turns a single attack step into an attrition puzzle for the attacker. The second is the rarer trick: paying to block multiple creatures lets it eat a two- or three-creature swing alone, doing the work of a clogged front line by itself. Both are pure mana sinks, which is the design logic worth noting: in the long, grinding games Odyssey block was built to produce, a one-drop's worth of stats meant nothing while a creature that ate your surplus mana to keep the door shut meant everything. It is a card with no clock and no plan to win, built entirely to stop other people from winning while a slower engine assembles itself. That makes it a creature of its era more than a creature for the ages: it answers a metagame question (how does a control deck survive the early swarm without spending a card?) that later white blockers solved with cleaner rates and fewer mana taps.
