The graveyard here is a resource meter, not a payload. Draw spells that scale off self-fill usually count raw card quantity: mill five, draw five. This one counts card types instead, so a single well-stocked graveyard with a land, a creature, an instant, a sorcery, and an artifact pays out five cards for the cost of what those five permanents and spells did on the way down. The design trades linear payoff for diversity, which is a subtler ask than it looks: a deck that dumps twenty creatures into the yard gets one card here, while a deck that traffics in varied card types gets rewarded for the way it was already going to play. That constraint is what keeps it honest. It rewards graveyards built through natural attrition (a cycled land, a countered instant, a chumped creature) rather than dedicated self-mill, and it punishes the mono-type piles that most graveyard synergies want. The result is a refill spell that reads as symmetrical value but actually asks you to play a broad, grindy game before it hits its ceiling. At full cost, the payout wants to be several cards deep to justify the five mana at sorcery speed, and getting there means the game has already gone long enough that a fistful of new cards is what you needed anyway.
