Looming Spires

Land

Most lands that tap for a single color and enter tapped are pure tempo cost: you pay a turn of speed for fixing you may or may not need. This one folds a combat buff into the down payment. The enters-tapped clause is the price, and the +1/+1-with-first-strike pulse is the rebate, paid the moment the land touches the battlefield. Timing carries the whole design, and it has a catch: because lands only drop at sorcery speed in a main phase, the trigger resolves before combat, so the opponent sees the buffed creature before declaring blockers. This is no ambush. It is a telegraphed advantage. What it does well is make an attack favorable on a turn you were spending a land anyway: a +1/+1 with first strike can win a combat your creature would otherwise lose, push damage through a smaller blocker, or discourage a block that now trades badly. The buff is mandatory and targeted, so it wants a creature already in play when the land arrives, which nudges sequencing toward holding the land until an attack matters rather than dropping it on curve. It is a deliberately small effect bolted to a deliberately ordinary mana source, a way to smuggle a marginal combat edge into a slot that usually costs you a turn and gives nothing back. The mana it makes never changes; what changes is whether you treat it as fixing that happens to fight, or a fight that happens to fix.
