Locust Swarm

Creature — Insect3 generic manaGreen mana

Two repeatable green payments do the structural work that later sets would compress into single keywords. One untaps the creature once per turn, letting it swing and still come back to block; the other regenerates it on demand. Stack them and you get a flier that attacks, survives the crackback, and holds up as a blocker, all funded by lands that would otherwise sit idle. The body itself barely registers as a threat, which is the point: this was built when green had almost no way to spend surplus mana in the late game, and the appeal is purely the conversion of an extra land into a regeneration shield or pseudo-vigilance, turn after turn. The evasion compounds the math, because a small flier stays through the air no matter how the ground board develops, and the untap keeps it both attacking and defending across a single turn cycle. Read whole, this is an early attempt at a resilient, self-sufficient green threat before the color had shorthand for resilience or attacking without tapping out: no vigilance keyword, no indestructible, just two activations carrying the load those words would later absorb. It asks a great deal of mana for a modest board presence, but it never asks for more than the lands already in play, which is what kept it relevant to green decks that flooded out and needed somewhere to put the overflow.
