Llanowar Visionary

Creature — Elf Druid2 generic manaGreen mana

Ramp with a card attached is the safest package Wizards knows how to make, and this is the archetype at its plainest: a three-mana body that replaces itself the moment it lands and then keeps producing green afterward. The lineage runs through Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, and Sakura-Tribe Elder before it, each solving the same green problem (get to the next mana threshold without falling behind on cards). What separates this one is the split of value across time: the draw is immediate, cushioning the tempo hit of spending a turn developing mana, while the tap-for-green is a standing accelerant that keeps paying long after the trigger has resolved. That structure makes it a card you rarely regret drawing. In an aggressive deck it is a beater and a card; in a ramp deck it is a mana source and a card; in a grindy deck it is chump-block insurance and a card. The 2/2 body is doing quiet work as well, since it survives the incidental one-damage pings that would leave a smaller mana dork dead on the battlefield. None of this is flashy design, but it is durable design: a green staple built so that the floor and the ceiling sit close together, which is exactly why versions of this creature keep getting reprinted into green decks that need to smooth their curve without spending a card to do it.
