Lingering Death

Removal that resolves on a clock instead of the stack: the enchanted creature lives through its controller's turn and dies at the next end step. That delay is the whole bargain. For two mana you get a forced sacrifice with no toughness threshold and no regeneration-trigger window to play around, but the controller keeps the creature for one full cycle, which means it can still attack, block, or feed a sacrifice payoff before the end step claims it. Because the card dictates a sacrifice rather than destruction, it bypasses indestructible and regeneration entirely, reaching threats damage-based removal never could. The Aura framing is what makes that work and what makes it fragile. Like any black Aura, it targets on the stack and keeps checking legality on the battlefield, so a creature with protection from black cannot be enchanted in the first place, and a creature that gains protection from black afterward sheds the Aura and survives. Any other way to strip or move the Aura before that end step buys the creature back too, and an opponent who sees the trigger coming will simply use the creature first. Set against a shrinking effect like Dead Weight, this one ignores size entirely and kills the thing outright, just on a timer. The tension it resolves is the old "how do you cost a guaranteed kill" problem: rather than piling restrictions on the target, it attaches a turn of grace and lets the creature do one last thing on the way out. That makes it a poor tempo answer and a quiet menace to high-toughness or indestructible threats.
