Lignify

Removal that does not remove. Instead of killing the creature, this transforms it: a new base 0/4 body, a stripped ability list, a forced Treefolk type. The wrinkle is in what survives and what does not. Abilities are gone, so the menace, the death triggers, the activated combos all evaporate, but the creature stays on the battlefield. That permanence is the whole point against decks that punish you for filling their graveyard, and against a commander whose owner would happily eat the removal to recast it: leave it on the battlefield as a harmless 0/4 wall and it never returns to the command zone, never resets, never comes back bigger. Setting base power and toughness rather than granting a static modifier means counters and Auras layered on top still apply on their own terms, and the 0/4 frame leaves a wall that cannot attack into anything but sits in front of your attackers all day. The Treefolk type is the flavor seam and the occasional liability, turning whatever it lands on into fuel for tribal payoffs or fodder for sweepers that name the type. As an answer it trades permanence for safety: it does not exile, does not draw a card, does not stop the threat from returning if the Aura is destroyed. What it does cleanly is neutralize the part of a creature that actually wins games, the text box, and leave behind a body too dull to matter. A narrower job than a kill spell, but a quieter one against the engines that would rather you let them die.
