Lightning Greaves

Artifact — Equipment2 generic mana

The zero-cost equip carries the whole design, and it changes what an Equipment is allowed to be. Most Equipment asks you to pay twice: once to cast, once to attach, with the second payment metered to keep a board-wide buff from snapping into place all at once. These boots charge nothing to move, which means they aren't really a buff so much as a freely reassignable cloak: drop a fresh threat, shift the boots over for free, and it has haste the turn it lands. The shroud is the half players sometimes forget cuts both ways. It protects the equipped creature from targeted removal, but it also locks out your own targeted Auras, your own pump spells, and any ability that would need to point at that creature. The card resolves a specific tension between protection and accessibility by drawing the line cleanly at "targeted": you trade the ability to touch your own creature for the guarantee that no one else can. That trade is why the more flexible Swiftfoot Boots exists alongside it rather than replacing it, granting hexproof instead so the controller can still target through. The bargain is honest about its terms: free movement, free haste, and the price is that the wearer becomes untouchable to everyone, you included.
