Leyline Prowler
A mana dork that also wants to block, which is a stranger combination than the golgari color pair usually gets to attempt. Ramp creatures normally trade their bodies for speed: Elvish Mystic and Birds of Paradise pay for their acceleration with negligible toughness, and you play them expecting to tap, not to fight. This one stacks deathtouch and lifelink onto the mana ability, so the same permanent that fixes your colors on turn three sits in front of an attacker on turn four and eats it while gaining you life. Deathtouch turns any point of combat damage into removal, so a 2/3 threatens to kill whatever an opponent sends across, and lifelink means the ramp piece also functions as a small drain whenever it connects or blocks. The mana of any color clause is the part that makes it worth the trouble: fixing plus a defensive wall plus incidental lifegain is a lot of jobs for one three-drop, and each is modest on its own. What it resolves is the tension between a color pair that loves value engines and a role (acceleration) that color pair executes poorly compared to green's dedicated dorks. Rather than a faster dork, it offers a stickier one, a mana source an opponent has to respect in combat rather than ignore.
