The combat trick half is priced honestly: doubling a creature's power and handing it first strike for two mana is a genuine board-swing, capable of turning a modest attacker lethal or blowing out an unfavorable block. The split-and-DFC frame is what makes the slot worth running, though. A pump spell you never draw is dead weight, and one clogging your opening hand while you have nothing worth pumping is worse than dead. The land back, Legion Stronghold, gives the card somewhere to go when the aggressive plan stalls or the mana is short: it enters tapped and fixes Boros colors without argument. This belongs to the lineage of modal double-faced cards that let a spell moonlight as a land drop, paying for the insurance with a fractional tax (the tapped clause, the modest floor) so a slot that would otherwise sit dead can still develop the board. The trick asks you to play aggressively and hold up two mana at instant speed; the land asks only that you make your draws function. You commit to a side when you decide how to use the card: cast the instant, or simply play the land for the turn. The flexibility is worth the most in decks whose manabase and threat density are least reliable; the more consistent your list already is, the less the second mode ever gets used.
