Lead by Example

Support was the keyword that gave green and white a clean way to spread a +1/+1 counter across a small board without nailing it to a single body, and this is the spell-shaped version of that idea: an instant that hands one counter to a pair of creatures. The instant timing does the heavy lifting. Two counters at sorcery speed is a board-building tool; at instant speed it becomes a combat trick that can push two attackers past their blockers in one shot, or rescue two creatures from a damage-based sweep, or commit the buff only after an opponent has shown their removal. The optional second target matters more than it reads, since it lets the spell still grow a lone creature when only one is worth growing, rather than stranding itself for want of a partner. What pays for that flexibility is the ceiling: one counter per creature, no stacking and no scaling, so the spell wants a board that already has two bodies in the right spots instead of trying to manufacture a threat from nothing. It sits in the long line of green combat tricks that want to trade up and stay ahead, with the wrinkle that the counters are permanent: the tempo the trick buys survives the turn it was cast.
