Five mana for a 5/4 with no evasion and no abilities is a rate that has sat below the curve for two decades, and that is precisely the point: this is replacement-level red beef, a vanilla beater whose whole job is to give a curve a body that trades up and blocks down. Designers lean on these deliberately, salting commons with plain-stated creatures so that the cards carrying keywords and triggers have room to feel special. The 5/4 split is the interesting calculation buried in an otherwise blank text box: a 5/4 attacks past the four-toughness blockers that stop a 4/4 and survives the burn that kills a 5/3, while the missing fifth toughness keeps it from punching into the territory of the rarer cards it shares a slot with. The asymmetry is doing the regulation work that a keyword or a finality counter does on flashier designs; here it is just numbers, tuned so the body trades favorably without dominating. There is no synergy to chase and no hidden upside in the text. It is honest filler, the kind of card that props up a curve when nothing better is available and yields the slot the instant a real threat arrives.
