Lady Spider, Maybelle Reilly
The connective tissue that turns a red discard shell into a Spider tribal engine. Reach and a 1/3 body signal a card built to hold ground, but the real work is the discard trigger: every card you pitch, whether to rummaging, to madness enablers, or to a hellbent payoff, hardens a Spider into a bigger threat. That coupling is the design's whole thesis. Red rarely grows a board through card selection; throwing cards away buys velocity and nothing else, and the fuel is spent the moment it leaves your hand. Here the same fuel does double duty, converting an emptying hand into permanent stats on a tribe that has historically been almost entirely a green concern. The trigger targets any Spider you control, including herself, so she can climb into relevance alone or distribute the growth across a web of blockers once a tribal shell assembles. That self-targeting clause is what keeps her from being dead on an empty board: she is her own first payoff. What reins her in is the hand you keep spending. Each counter costs a card, and once you are hellbent the engine idles until you refill, so the whole build has to be organized around a repeatable supply of cards worth throwing away. The counter placement is what makes her an engine rather than a two-drop blocker, and it asks you to treat discard as the plan rather than the price.
