Lacerate Flesh

Ordinary burn wants the damage to match the target's toughness exactly, treating anything past the kill as waste. This inverts that math: five mana buys four damage, a punishing rate for removal, but every point that lands beyond the target's toughness becomes a Blood token. Point it at a 2/1 and three of those excess points spill out the other side as loot fuel. The more you overkill, the more you are paid for the mismatch. The Blood tokens keep the payoff honest by deferring it: each is a taxed, one-shot loot (pay a mana, discard, sacrifice, draw), so the spell is not secretly card advantage the turn it resolves. You are converting dead damage into a resource that still costs mana and a card to cash. That deferral is what makes the payoff fair. Plenty of removal folds a reward into the kill; the wrinkle here is that the reward keys off excess damage rather than the death itself, which quietly reverses how you evaluate the spell. A four-toughness creature yields nothing but a corpse. Everything smaller, which is most of what you want to shoot at, hands back Blood in proportion to how badly the four outstrips it. The removal is deliberately overpriced for what it kills; the design bet is that the targets worth killing sit low enough that the Blood is not a bonus stapled on but the actual reason to run the card.
