Wither and flying pull in opposite directions on most bodies: wither wants ground combat where the -1/-1 counters land on blockers, while flying wants to sail over the fight entirely. The static ability reconciles them. Every counter sitting on a creature your opponents control, whether from this body's own combat damage or from any other source, becomes a lock: a creature with even a single counter can't attack or block. That turns wither's incidental shrinkage into a hard tax on the opposing board. Pair it with anything else that drops counters onto the enemy side (other wither attackers, removal that distributes -1/-1 counters, effects that stick counters on creatures you don't control) and an opponent's offense and defense seize up together. The clause reads "counters," not "-1/-1 counters," so any counter qualifies; a creature an opponent has grown with +1/+1 counters is just as paralyzed as one that shrank, which is the wrinkle that makes the ability quietly punishing in unexpected matchups. The 3/3 flier matters less than the rule it carries. Its real work is as a keystone for a deck built to spread counters across the opposing board, where one immobilized creature, frozen by a Pacifism-style clause rather than tapped, is worth as much for what it can no longer do as for the stats it lost. It rewards a counters-matter shell aimed outward, not the more familiar version pointed at your own team.
