Theft enchantments live or die on whether you can keep what you steal, and this one charges rent on a sliding scale that only ever climbs. Control Magic took the creature and never paid a second thought; this design borrows the same control-the-body effect but bolts cumulative upkeep onto it, so each upkeep adds an age counter and the bill grows with every one already there. By the fifth upkeep you are paying five mana to keep the creature, the sixth costs six, and the curve outpaces any board you were trying to defend. The choice of blue or black to pay is real flexibility, but it never makes the arithmetic comfortable; the cost is designed to eventually price you out. And the moment you stop paying, the Aura dies and bites you for two life per counter on the way down. That back-end punishment is the genuinely cruel touch. A normal theft effect that gets answered just hands the creature back; here, removing the Aura (whether by your own lapsed payment or an opponent's enchantment hate) converts every turn you held the creature into a life-loss tally, so the longer the steal worked, the worse losing it hurts. It reframes the whole transaction as a loan against your own life total, an interest schedule rather than a clean swap. It belongs to a brief experimental window when cumulative upkeep was being attached to effects far stranger than the lands and creatures the mechanic usually taxed.
