How this card plays

7 reviews

A six-mana 6/7 in a format where the serious blue-black decks are tempo-leaning Dimir builds that want to apply pressure earlier, and it has yet to register in any tracked tournament deck this season. Legal since its March 2026 release, absent from the field that the data covers.

The build-around requirement is the gap. The card's payoff is gated on a permanent leaving your battlefield each turn, which means it does not want to be a top-end you slam and pass; it wants a deck constructed around sacrifice outlets, blink, or bounce that keeps the Disappear clause live. Standard's current Dimir shells are not built that way. They lean on flash threats and efficient removal, not on the permanent-churn engine this card needs to turn its exile cascade into free spells. Without that scaffolding, you are paying six mana for a body that digs into one opponent-side spell and then idles. The Ninja line theoretically cheats the enter trigger onto an unblocked attacker, but the format's aggressive decks rarely leave the window open, and no current archetype is assembling the ninjutsu package around it.

Krang & Shredder rotates in the fall 2027 cycle with its parent set, which keeps it legal through more than one rotation of partners. Nothing on the announced schedule builds the sacrifice-and-blink Dimir shell that would give it a home, but the long runway means a future printing of the right enablers could change that before it leaves. Until then, it stays a card waiting for a deck the format has not printed.

Rules text

Whenever Krang & Shredder enter or attack, each opponent exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card. Disappear — At the beginning of your end step, if a permanent left the battlefield under your control this turn, you may cast a card exiled with Krang & Shredder without paying its mana cost.
