Kraken Hatchling

A wall in everything but name, and one of the cleanest expressions of the one-mana speed bump in blue's history. The 0/4 body buys time the way blue prefers to buy it: not by trading, not by killing, but by simply refusing to die to the early aggression that a controlling deck needs to survive. Four toughness for a single mana is the whole proposition, blocking two-power attackers indefinitely and shrugging off the small reach that aggressive decks lean on. The zero power is the cost: it never threatens damage, never pressures a planeswalker, and contributes nothing to a clock, so it commits fully to defense rather than splitting the difference. Blue has returned to this template repeatedly, with bodies like Wall of Frost adding tap-down riders and Fog Bank trading toughness for evasion-proofing, but the unadorned version asks nothing and gives back a clean defensive floor. The Kraken type is flavor with a long fuse: a hatchling that grows into something the format usually reserves for top-end finishers, which is the joke the card is named around. What it really is, underneath the sea-monster gloss, is a stop sign priced low enough to slot into any deck that needs to reach its later turns intact.
