Koth of the Hammer
The mono-red planeswalker that finally rewarded committing to Mountains rather than splashing them. Every loyalty ability keys to the same resource: how many Mountains you control. The +1 animates one into a 4/4 attacker that reverts to noncreature status at end of turn (which also means it cannot stick around to block on the opponent's turn). The −2 is the burst that built big-mana and combo red around it, producing a flood of red equal to your Mountain count, the kind of explosive ramp turn that ordinarily belongs to green. And the ultimate emblem hands every Mountain you control a pinger, grinding through boards and faces alike. That distinction is sharper than it looks: the emblem reads "Mountains," not basic lands, so it lights up nonbasic Mountains too and ignores your other basic types entirely, a small reward for building the heaviest red manabase you can. Where most planeswalkers reward a balanced board, this one rewards monocolor discipline and punishes anyone who treats it as a generic four-mana threat. Animate, ramp, or pressure, all paid for in the same Mountains you were already running: it remains the reference point for what a dedicated mono-red planeswalker can ask of a deck.
