Korozda Gorgon

The activated ability is the tell that this Gorgon was built to live inside a counters shell rather than alongside one. Most creatures that shrink the opposing board pay for the effect with mana or life; this one pays with its own growth resources, spending +1/+1 counters that some other engine is supposed to be generating. That makes it a sink and a release valve at once: a stalled board full of counters on populated tokens, evolve creatures, or graft donors becomes a repeatable stream of -1/-1 effects, each one capable of outright killing a one-toughness blocker or shrinking a threat below combat relevance. The 2/5 frame ties it together. The body wants to sit back and trade up, and deathtouch means any creature that attacks into it dies to its two power regardless of how large it is, while the activated ability picks off the threats it cannot reach in combat. The dependency is the whole shape of the card. Without an outside counter source the ability is inert, and the two-mana activation cost stacked on top of the counter removal means it dismantles a board only as fast as its mana and counters allow. That is precisely why it reads as a payoff piece and not a standalone removal creature: it asks the deck around it to keep feeding it, and it rewards a build already drowning in counters it would otherwise have nowhere to spend.
