Kiln Fiend

The 1/2 frame is the entire point: too small to win combat, too small to matter on defense, just durable enough to survive a single point of incidental damage while you assemble a turn around it. This is a creature that would rather not be a creature at all, functioning instead as a delivery mechanism for one explosive attack step, and the +3/+0 stacks per spell rather than capping out. Two cantrips and a burn spell turn that two-toughness body into a ten-plus-power threat in a single swing, and because the trigger fires on cast rather than resolution, even a countered spell still pumps it. That is the tension the design lives in: every spell in the deck has to do double duty, advancing the lethal turn while it keeps cards flowing. It rewards a build that is half spellslinger, half storm, where the body is a clock you assemble in one turn rather than a board presence you protect. The lineage runs through the spells-matter beaters that convert a thin card-advantage shell into damage: hold the creature back, untap with a hand of cheap spells, and route the whole turn into one attack. Trample or an extra combat step makes the math violent fast, but the deck lives and dies on the fragility the toughness implies. One removal spell at the wrong moment and the entire assembled turn evaporates.
