Three mana more than Disfigure buys you a body that stays on the battlefield, and that trade is the whole reasoning behind the design. The enters-the-battlefield -2/-2 is the same shrink-removal that has shown up on instants priced for tempo, but stapling it to a 2/2 flyer changes what the card is for: it is an evasive blocker-clearer that keeps fighting after it has done its job, and it can be flickered, reanimated, or bounced to fire the trigger again. The minus-two is deliberately partial. It will not touch anything with three or more toughness on its own, so the card reads as a clean answer to the small evasive and utility creatures that crowd the early game rather than a catch-all kill spell, and that ceiling is what keeps a recurring removal-on-a-stick from being oppressive. This is one of black's long-running bargains: a creature that pays for its lower rate with reusability. The spell is overcosted, but the spell was never the point. You are buying the flyer and getting the removal as a finisher on the deal.
