Jungle Patrol

Creature — Human Soldier3 generic manaGreen mana

A token factory whose tokens exist only to be cashed in. The body is a 3/2 for four, but the engine is the real design: pay 1 generic manaGreen mana and tap to staple a 0/1 Wood Wall onto the board, then feed those Walls into a red mana battery one at a time. That second clause carries the whole concept; it turns a green creature into a slow, repeatable source of red, the kind of two-color fixing that bordered on a build-around in its era. The Walls do honest blocking work while they wait to be converted, so each token earns its keep twice: first as a defender, then as a single Red mana. The friction is brutal by modern standards. Every Wood demands a full tap-and-pay activation to create and yields exactly one red mana when sacrificed, so the ramp is real but glacial, paying off only if the game runs long enough to loop the cycle several times. As an early expression of the token-as-resource idea, the conversion here is laid out in two deliberate, mana-hungry steps rather than compressed into a single trigger the way later designs would handle it. That transparency is the charm and also the reason the engine never moved fast enough to matter: you can watch every step of the machine work, and watching is most of what you get.
